July 1 marks a new fiscal year in Habitat world. Many non-profits follow a July-June financial year.
It’s been a year of accomplishment. Which we have chronicled here. And here. And here.
We closed out our fiscal year by obtaining the Certificates of Occupancy for our two homes in the Village of Philmont. Our two partner families are a step closer to their dream homes.
We turn our attention now to completing our Rural Starter Home prototype. Applications for that house and projects to come will open soon.
More houses are needed. What we can build is just a drop in an ocean of need. The housing gap is getting greater.
Yet progress is being made, as a report by Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress recently detailed. In fits and starts, communities are taking action to break through the barriers of NIMBYism and exclusionary zoning. Interest groups are working together on solutions. The NY Pro Housing Community program is getting traction.
New years bring fresh starts. Let’s build on our collective successes and keep moving forward. Together.
