It’s June 6: I have completed a 66th circuit around the sun. It’s been another interesting leg on this grand tour.
June 6 is a productive date in history. Many milestones have been made, if you keep track of such things.
We all know (and shame on you if you do not) about D-Day, “Operation Overlord,” the allied invasion of Normandy that began on this day in 1944.
Other similarly significant 20th century events occurring on 6/6 include:
The video game Tetris was first published on this date in 1984.
In 1968, Robert F. Kennedy died after being shot.
In 1946, the NBA was founded.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) came into being in 1934.
The first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, NJ in 1933.
Clarence Birdseye sold his first frozen foods to the public on this day in 1930, in Massachusetts.
My arrival captured fewer headlines, for sure. But it was a singular an event, after all, as they only made one! (True fact: I am the only Albert Bellenchia presently on earth.)
“The passionate heart never ages.” - John O'Donohue
“Wisdom is the reward for surviving our own stupidity.” - Brian Rathbone
“Everyday is one less day.” - Tom Ford
“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.” - Seneca
Orbit #67 has now commenced for this devilish chap. So, let’s put the top down and enjoy this year’s ride! Who wants to ride shotgun?
Happy belated birthday, Al!
66 on 6/6! Beautiful rhyme!
